Oct. Meeting Reminder

Lets see the FIRST Disney Short to be Directed by a Woman!
I came across two things that should be seen, one of which is a landmark short of sorts.
Proposed Date and time of Event:
October 20th
10:30 a.m.
(that's a Saturday)
Davis Theatre
4614 N. Lincoln Ave.
The film we'd get to see is called The Three Robbers. There's a official trailer courtesy of youtube here.
Itlooks quite beautiful. Of course when they screen it here, it will be translated.
It was recently mentioned in Cartoon Brew here
Even better, they're screening the new Goofy short "How to Hook up Your Home Theatre" before it. This short was made in the old short style, and it's gotten great reviews. And oddly enough, it's the FIRST DISNEY CARTOON directed by a WOMAN!! Maybe we can find a way to get her to talk to us? An interview perhaps? Even an interview/Q&A by email?
Stevie Wermers-Skelton is her name and she directed the short with Kevin Deters
Stevie's "resume" and contact info
Here's a link to a bit about her and Kevin Deters, courtesy of Ottawa Film Fest. It's at the bottom of the page
They both will be in town doing a workshop for the Children's Film Festival on October 27th from 11 am to 1 pm. I'm not sure but maybe we can see if they can do a quick q&a and see if the animation department at columbia will let us have it there.
Cartoon Brew's article on Ottawa & the Goofy Short
And then there's this wonderful interview with Andreas Deja and Mark Henn who animated this short here
We should buy tickets in advance

It's coming up soon and they usually have some quality animated films. They've moved their screenings to a theatre up on Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Square which is pretty easy to get to.

A friend of mine needs some help!
I am interested in having the St. Mary’s students participate in an art project at Lincoln Park Zoo. I’d like it to start off with a description of what the artist does when he/she decides to draw animals. Then we spend some time in the zoo drawing. Right now, we have six 6th-8th grade students signed up. I’ve had a few more parents and students express interest. This art program could be on Friday, Sept. 28 or Sunday, Sept. 30. On Sunday, we need to be at O’Hare by 4:00 so we should be done at the zoo by 2:30. I am in the process of scheduling two other arts events so any flexibility in their schedules will be most appreciated. Otherwise, I’ll fit together as much as I can!
Like I mentioned on the phone, normally we don’t travel with this few students so we are on a very tight budget and a free art lesson would be most appreciated. We’re taking the trip this time because 3 of the kids are playing in VanderCook’s Middle School HonorFest.
If your friends are interested, would you please ask them to call meThursday, September 6, 2007
Sept. meeting notes
We had a great Sept. meeting yesterday. We are looking for ideas to raise money for our group. If anyone has any ideas, please post your thoughts here, or bring them to the next meeting.
At the meeting we mentioned two places online to take classes. Here are the links if anyone wants to check them out: Schoolism and Animation Mentor
The next SketchCrawl will be on Sat. Sept. 22nd at 1pm in Millennium Park. We’ll meet by the Crown Fountains (the two large fountains with the spitting faces).
We’re also planning to have another night to continue the second part of Pricilla Olson’s animation. Once we have the time and location, we'll be posting the information here.
At the end of the meeting we watched The Artsiders, a short documentary about Chicago artists. It was interesing to see the variety of artists in Chicago.
The next meeting will be on Wed. Oct. 10th at 6pm at Columbia College in room 401H at the 1104 S. Wabash building.
