Oct. Meeting Notes

Thanks to everyone who came to the WIA meeting today. Here are some dates to mark on your calendars:

Sat. October 13th- A group of us are going to see Animation Nations, animation shorts playing with the Chicago International Film Festival. (5:30 show) http://www.chicagofilmfestival.org/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CIFFSite.woa/3/wa/pages/Shorts

Sat. Oct. 20th- We’re going to the Children’s International Film Festival to see the 10:30 show of The Three Robbers with a new Goofy short, How to Hook up Your Home Theater, playing before it. (Check back here for exciting news regarding that!)

November 7th- Bill Plympton is having a preview of his nearly complete film, Idiots and Angels, at the Music Box. Chicago will be the first audience to see this film before it’s sent off to Sundance. It is a bit late though, but should be well worth it! 10pm

We decided not to have a sketchcrawl for October because the month is already full, so let’s have one in November. Please think of indoor locations for the next sketchcrawl.

One idea we had is to have a bit of “show and tell” time at the end of each meeting. Anyone who has anything they’d like to show the group is welcome to at the end of each meeting. It’d be great to see what everyone else is working on. Also, if anyone would like to give tutorials/demonstrations, please let us know. We might have a Flash demonstration at the next meeting by Patrick Cheng.

We’re also in the process of scheduling a guest speaker, Priscilla Olson, to come back and show us more of her animation. It should be in November or December.

The next meeting will be at the same time and same place on November 14th.

Sept. meeting notes

Hi Everyone!

We had a great Sept. meeting yesterday. We are looking for ideas to raise money for our group. If anyone has any ideas, please post your thoughts here, or bring them to the next meeting.

At the meeting we mentioned two places online to take classes. Here are the links if anyone wants to check them out: Schoolism and Animation Mentor

The next SketchCrawl will be on Sat. Sept. 22nd at 1pm in Millennium Park. We’ll meet by the Crown Fountains (the two large fountains with the spitting faces).

We’re also planning to have another night to continue the second part of Pricilla Olson’s animation. Once we have the time and location, we'll be posting the information here.

At the end of the meeting we watched The Artsiders, a short documentary about Chicago artists. It was interesing to see the variety of artists in Chicago.

The next meeting will be on Wed. Oct. 10th at 6pm at Columbia College in room 401H at the 1104 S. Wabash building.

Wed Meeting Notes

We had a good meeting Wednesday at Columbia College. We planned our next sketchcrawl for Sat. July 21st at noon at the north entrance of the Field Museum. We’re also making it our next meeting as well. http://www.fieldmuseum.org/plan_visit/default.htm If it’s raining, we’ll go draw in the museum. Otherwise, we will draw outside.

Amada started collecting flipbooks that have been done so far. She shot 2 of them back to back on the lunchbox, and they looked great together! If any of you did flipbooks, or still want to do one, or do another one, you still have time. When they’re done, they can be dropped off at the animation floor at Columbia College- 4th floor - 1104 S. Wabash. You can drop them off with Kevin, the secretary in the animation office, or at the cage with a TA. Just tell them it is for Amada. Otherwise, you can bring it to the sketchcrawl.

Oh, someone said that the Art Institute has free evenings on Thursdays and Fridays from 5-9. (until August 31) http://www.artic.edu/aic/visitor_info/

At the meeting, we also talked about the screening Friday night, Animation at the Portage. There seemed to be lots of interest. We didn’t meet as a WIA group last night, but we did run into each other. It was a great turnout! It seemed like everyone in the Chicago animation community turned out to support it last night. Among the films shown was WIA member, Lisa Barcy’s film, Mermaid.

Hope to see you tonight at the sneak peak of Ratatouille! Otherwise, we’ll see you at the sketchcrawl!

April Meeting notes

Thanks to all those who came to the meeting Wed evening!

WIA has set up an official blog at animationblogspot- http://wia.animationblogspot.com/ They have basically moved all the information from their website to this bog. Please check it out!

The Women in Animation Symposium is coming up on April 13-16 at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. For more information check their blogspot- http://women-in-animation-symposium.blogspot.com/

We have a lot of events we’re planning for the next few months, and we are taking any suggestions on a new meeting location. It would be great to have a regular meeting location where we can screen our work. We are hoping to find a classroom.

Those of you who are participating in the flipbook project, please bring them to the next meeting. We will be taking all the flipbooks and shooting it all together. Several people brought their flipbooks on Wed. They are looking great. There is a nice range from abstract to a walk, a run, and a jump. Can’t wait to see what else people have! Just remember to animate something coming in from the left and exit on the right.

The next meeting will be at 6pm on June 13th at 6pm. Check back in June for the meeting location.

On Sat. May 26th, we’re having an unofficial get together. We’ll be doing a sketch crawl and then going to the John and Bill Show in the evening. http://www.thejohnandbillshow.com/ More details will be posted soon.

The annual WIA meeting will be on April 19th in CA.

WIA is thinking of using http://animationblogspot.com/ to set up their site. It is another blogspot where animators can set up their own blogs. It looks like a really good site with lots of great animation blogs. Check it out. There’s some great information!

The Women in Animation Symposium will be held at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio on April 13-16. It looks like they have a good line up of great speakers, portfolio reviews, and they are still looking for short films to be submitted. February 1, 2007 Meeting Recap

Hi everyone,
Great meeting on Thursday, glad everyone could make it and was nice to meet Mary Beth and Jessica! Thanks to Suzanne for making the flipbooks - which we will all try and bring in for the April meeting.

We will continue looking into permanent meeting space, but until that happens, the Chicago Place 8th Floor seemed to work out - we definitely had the place to ourselves. Since we were kicked out at 7:30, we should try and make it a little before 6 next meeting so everyone can get some food and we can start right at 6:00 PM.

For those of you who could not make the meeting, the next one has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 7. Please send me your ideas or topics for discussion and I will have a more formalized agenda to hand out at the beginning of the meeting.

Also as mentioned, I've listed some general position descriptions. As members, we are all involved in the running, maintaining and life of the chapter! For those of you who would like to make an extra commitment, please consider running for one of the below positions. Any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Elections will be held at the next meeting.
Thanks,
Katy
